Golf England Urgently Requests Government Funding for 2030 Solheim Cup Bid
The most recent Solheim Cup taking place in Europe took place in Spain in 2023, while the upcoming tournament scheduled for the Netherlands four years from now.
In the wake of the latest men's golf championship victory, the national golf association is calling on the government to underwrite its bid to organize the Solheim Cup on English soil for the very first occasion.
This renowned competition pitting the leading women players of Europe and the United States has been held twice in Scotland and in Wales yet never on English territory. A bid has been put together to hold it at The Grove within Hertfordshire in 2030.
Yet organizers are seeking thirty million pounds to back this proposal and currently only £10m has been secured. The organizing body is requesting Treasury support to cover the funding gap.

Negotiations to secure government support began earlier this year yet an answer on whether support will be provided is time-sensitive. The rights for the 2030 tournament are held by IMG who require a resolution within the current month.
According to the bid document, the organizing committee maintains that securing the event "provides huge value for England".
