New England Match Longest Victory Run From Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields running in a short rushing score to finish the New York's opening drive
But the New England fought back in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of Henderson. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields connected with Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales kicked a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the triumph
