A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour victory, took control to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
