Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his sadness that the Three Lions team did not get greater support from the Wembley crowd during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his team maintain their strong performance, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the game. Yet, he was unhappy with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had limited training days to get ready against a well-trained team and we excelled,” the coach commented. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We missed the additional goals. It was quiet. There was no any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad warranted more support today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a bit more backing in moments where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Away from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by omitting Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was backed up by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach said. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his place.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who face Belgium in a key World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this match,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our standing. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today gives me inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was substituted at half-time after clattering into a goalpost and will be a doubt when England face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
